Huhmmm...Yummy?
Ramar Foods produces a flavor of ice cream that we are absolutely addicted to, buko pandan. (That's coconut and uh...pandan flavor for you; in Viet pandan is la dua for my Viet readers out there.) We're a household of lactose intolerant people but for this ice cream, we're willing to brave the tummy aches, it's that good. J and my brother D love it so much that they pretty much ate the last half gallon I bought between the two of them, those fat bastards. So when dangled with the possiblity that we were going to a Costco near our local crack-ice-cream dealer, I jumped at the chance to get some more.
Anyhoo, while digging through our crack-ice-cream dealer's ice cream section, we noticed the following flavor:

Corn and queso...uh, I think I'll stick with the buko pandan.

Mmmm coconut ice cream, but what does pandan taste like? My family also loves ice cream, my son absolutely loves those Haagen Dazs bars.
haha, you never know... could be really... corny and cheesy. :-) I know, as a lactose intolerant person, there're things for which I am willing to suffer the aftermath... ice cream would be one.
Ummm... gross?
G is lactose intolerent and SWEARS by Lactaid pills. However, they have to be the chewable ones. He says the other ones (capsules) don't work -- for him anyway. Sounds like you all might not have it as bad as him. If he ate that much ice cream... oh boy. He wouldn't even take a half a spoonful of ice cream without pills.
Because when he suffers... we all suffer. Heh.
yuuuuuuuummmmm... i heart buko pandan. especially magnolia brand. but it occurred to me that i have no idea what pandan is either so i wikied. check it out. apparently, it's "restorative, deodorant, indolent and phylactic, promoting a feeling of wellbeing and acting as a counter to tropical lassitude" AND "In Asia, a car infested with cockroaches can generally be rid of the cockroaches by leaving a handful of fresh pandan leaves overnight in the vehicle."
martha stewart should put pandan in her list of good things. :)
Yeah I like buko pandan too.I always wondered what the pandan was and thought it was just coconut. I tried the cheese and corn, I did not like it.
i heart ube-macapuno!
magnolia ice cream is the local ice cream brand i grew up with.
cheese flavored ice cream is actually just vanilla ice cream with chunks of cheddar cheese. it's the most popular "dirty" ice cream flavor. the ice cream is not actually dirty, it's mostly just a reference because it's home-made and carried only by the well loved "sorbetero" or ice cream vendor who push ice cream carts along streets in the philippines.
the popularity of the cheese flavored ice cream and the difficulty of finding a "sorbetero" in ones neighborhood has i guessed prompted the big ice cream companies like Magnolia to market the flavor. but nothing beats home made cheese ice cream in sugar cones from a genuine "dirty" ice cream cart.
pandan are long green leaves used mainly in cooking for it's distinct aroma and flavor. boiled and steamed rice cooked with pandan smells heavenly. buco salad with pandan jello is a well loved dessert and is now a popular ice cream flavor too. in other asian countries pandan is also used for savory dishes.
